Louca-Acumulacao Museum
Images Description Credits
"The goal of the Louca_Acumulacao Museum was to test the current phenomena of museums as "events", a trend which both drives and limits the possibilites for museum architecture to function as a lens bewtween visitors and artifacts. The studio was to examine the notion of seductive artifacts against that of architecture as a seductive event, perhaps finding new opportunities for synthesis between them." -Professor DeJarnett.
The site for Lygia Louca Acumulacao Museum is in the artist's district of Santa Ana. The dimensions of the site or 50' x 100' with a strict limit of 45' in height. Parking is already provided by the adjacent municipal lots.
The goal was to develop curatorial strategy that show how the collection will be archived.
The Program consisted of Exhibition areas totaling in 9,100 sq ft. A Brazilian Cafe and bookstore to be about 1500 sq. ft. Administration totaled to be about 2110 sq. ft. This project also included an area for conservation totaling 2080 sq. ft. and 1700 sq. ft in public spaces.
The solution turned out to be that exhibiting artifacts from a private collector can be a fun experience, with out the need to disturb the art itself. Crisp, clean and visibly pleasing this museum brings a new form of excitement and way to appreciate art to the city of Santa Ana through an ongoing experience of a three dimensional subtle art piece in itself.
